After its sell-out success this summer, TEDxFolkestone returns next year when it will examine A Reimagined Future.
The third event to be held in the town will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2019, at The Quarterhouse and organisers will be beginning the search for speakers soon.
“The 2018 event saw 11 people, some of whom had never spoken in public before, step into the spotlight,” said event Curator Liù Batchelor.
“We put a lot of effort into our speaker development, and what makes our event special is that we really support them.
“For me, it’s all about finding your message. People love TED talks because the speaker has one idea they really manage to explain in a clear way that makes them want to go away and action that new way of thinking.”
Liù added that the theme of a Reimagined Future for 2019 would stretch those thought processes even further.
She said: “What I really love about this theme is not only is it about what’s coming next, but it puts a very different spin on it: how can you reimagine something that hasn’t happened yet, but do we do it automatically?
“This theme really fits with where we are as an event. The first year we were pushing the boundaries because it was the first time we’d held it and we didn’t know if it was possible.
“For year two, we were encouraged to take a step beyond. For me it was the scarier of the two as we’d had a great first year and the question was whether we would be able to match that. From all the feedback we got, I believe we did.
“Now we’ve laid the foundations, the question for this, our third event, is what is the future? What wasn’t possible before but definitely is now?”
Anyone interested in either speaking at the event or attending should put Saturday, June 22, in their diaries and sign up on 165.232.32.218 for regular updates and to find out when speaker applications open.
Videos of this year’s speakers are also available to view, to provide inspiration for those interested in taking to the stage.
